On Friday, Tverečius border guard officers of the SBGS Vilnius border team captured a group of people passing near the village of Lazinkai in the Ignalina district. As it turned out, he had just illegally crossed the border between Lithuania and Belarus, which he reports to the SBGS.
Tverečius border guards detained these 14 illegal immigrants. They were 7 men, 2 women and 5 minors. They all had passports of Iraqi citizens who did not have Schengen visas.
The place where the illegal immigrants had just crossed the border from Belarus was immediately identified.
The detainees applied for asylum in Lithuania. The border guards of the Migration Division of the SBGS Vilnius Border Team have initiated the initial actions of the asylum procedure. The Department of Migration, which handles these asylum applications, has been informed.
Border guards took the migrants to the Švenčionys border firewall, where there are special premises for the accommodation of asylum seekers. The aliens were tested for COVID-19 on Friday. Responses were expected at noon on Saturday, which will address the issue of accommodation for foreigners.
Due to the illegal crossing of the state border, a pre-trial investigation was launched at the Vilnius Border Guard Team of the SBGS.
