There are many job openings in construction – it is difficult for employers to find suitable employees

“The trends are evidenced not only by the decline in the volume of construction jobs, but also by the fact that more and more people who do not have the necessary skills to do construction work and cannot find work are seeking unemployment benefits. These are likely people who have been involved in illegal activities in the past. Today, there is a clear mismatch between supply and demand in the construction labor market, ”LSA president D. Gedvilas told Eltai.

According to him, more than half of all registered job openings are for skilled workers, and employers are the ones most in need of specialists with limited specialization, such as builders, masons, finishers, plasterers, concrete workers, insulators, plumbers and plumbers. , welders, electricians and scaffolding.

“At present, there are almost 4 vacancies for a job-seeking installer, 3 for a concrete worker and 2 for a pipe installer. This shows that there is a severe shortage of high-quality, qualified builders on the market, and the Employment Service has an influx of people profession.

Now it is very difficult for employers to find the necessary employees, so they are trying to fill the missing positions with the help of employees from third countries, ”said D. Gedvilas.

According to the president of the LSA, a mandatory Builder Card (STATREG) would reduce the scope of illegal work in the construction sector, in addition to assessing whether a person has the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out construction work.
