With the onset of the COVID-19 infection in Euroleague clubs, the league’s leadership sat down to discuss a new regime in which clubs do not have the opportunity to enter the field.

According to the COVID-19 regulation adopted in September, teams that could not compete would be penalized with technical losses of 0:20, but now that sanction will be the last resort.

Based on Euroleague decisions, if a team does not have eight basketball players or is in quarantine, their match will be postponed. It will be possible to change the date of a match up to three times.

If the match is not finally completed after three adjustments or no match has been played, the club that did not meet the original match date will receive a technical defeat.

The Euroleague intends to apply the new procedure retroactively. Due to the COVID-19 virus, four matches have already been played in the tournament: two ASVEL matches in Villerban (with Panathinaikos in Athens and Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade) and two Zenit matches in Saint Petersburg (with Baskonia in Vitoria and Basket in Valencia).

The Euroleague emphasized that transfers must be made within the scheduled calendar deadlines: the regular season must end on April 13 and the playoffs on May 5.

This procedure will also apply to European Cup competitions. The regular season of this tournament must be played before December 22 and the Top 16 stage must be played before February 23.

In the European Cup, the COVID-19 virus interrupted the execution of three matches.
