On Saturday, services were rushed to Perkūno Alley in Žaliakalnis again. Here the demolition of a house in the heritage area continued. It seems that the neighbors themselves lacked patience, force was used to stop the work.

Thunder Avenue has been a hot spot for some time. Already on Wednesday of this week, the citizens of Kaunas were excited when they saw that the demolition of the heritage house marked with number 11 had begun. Upon arrival, the authorities prevented further demolition work, warned the owner of impending responsibility, but the next day, the heavy machinery was installed. The services that could only rest on Friday were used again to stop the arrogant demolition work. As early as Saturday morning, Kaunas residents began sounding the alarms again.

Population: this is high levels of corruption

“Destroying that house. Horror what is happening! Let us stand at the door of my house and observe how the poisonous asbestos dust is spread, in my house, in the lungs of all the people around ”, Nerijus did not hide during the emotional action, seeing with his own eyes how this heritage building was being demolished.

The citizen recalled about the planned demolition of the house in the heritage area, notifying the prosecutor’s office and the Žaliakalnis nursing home and other authorities at the beginning of October. However, only representatives of the Department of Cultural Heritage of the Municipality of Kaunas city reacted to the information in a timely manner.

“I can’t get on my property. I don’t know if they broke my old fence. As we speak, rock wool is pulled, slate dust is scattered all over the area, the wind carries it to nearby houses where there are playgrounds. “What is happening is unprecedented, the corruption is incredibly great, just horror,” Nerijus said.

Stojo Masonry

After the events happened, the incidents could not be avoided either: the famous architect of Kaunas, Audrys Karalius, took his own hands to stop the arrogant men of demolition. As the assembled people tried to find out the identity of the supervisor, who replied that not everyone was required to report, the architect tore a protective mask off his face and pushed a protective fence that surrounded the area of this house.

When this was not balanced and collapsed along with the aforementioned fence but soon stood up and said he would summon the officials, King continued to try to get in their way.

However, officials who have and can maintain public order in such cases soon also arrived.

Demolition work stopped

Saulius Rimas, the head of the Department of Cultural Heritage, who visited the territory of the demolished house on Saturday, did not hesitate: it was decided not to continue the demolition work unnecessarily over the weekend. “The owner understands the situation very well and here is a malicious act. As it is a weekend and the state institutions are not working, neither the Department of Cultural Heritage, nor the Construction Inspectorate, nor the Municipality of Kaunas, is used ”, He told reporters on the portal.

Although, according to the officials who came to Perkūnas Alley, the owner of the building masked them with documents and tried to show that everything that was done here was legal and that it could demolish some part of the heritage building, S. Rimas denied such speeches: the owner has no such right.

The illegal activities were stopped by the intervention of the representatives of the Department of Environmental Protection, but they also seemed to have had to make considerable efforts.

The company carrying out the works has been entrusted to suspend them for a maximum period of one month, extendable if necessary. The company is also obliged to ensure the safety of the construction site and the impossibility of carrying out demolition work.

As promised by the company’s representative to the services, an alarm system will be installed so that no one enters the territory and construction equipment will be seized. Any movement will be treated as a violation – failure to comply with the mandatory instruction.
