“It will be positive in principle, but again we will see how and to what extent the state could implement those possible obligations without exceeding certain expectations and without scheduling any problems for state finances in the future,” Skvernelis told Knowledge Radio.

The prime minister added that the financing of pension number 13 has been planned so far with state reserves and the reduction of the black economy.

We also have certain reservations in mind, and this is also related to the decisions of the Seimas submitted by the laws of the Government. If such laws are introduced, especially when it comes to reducing the size of the shadow economy, it is realistic that it would be a source of funding, ”noted S. Skvernelis.

Zbignev Jedinskis, a member of the Polish Lithuanian Election Campaign faction, the Union of Christian Families that proposes the amendment, said that the 13th pension would reach 200 euros, it would be paid in December of each year.

According to Finance Minister Vilius Šapoka, we will not see pension number 13 in next year’s budget, at that time Prime Minister S. Skvernelis and the leader of the “peasants” Ramūnas Karbauskis said that it would not be the Finance Minister, but the entire government.

Trust in Finance Minister Šapoka never wavered

Despite divergent views on the possibility of introducing pension number 13, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis says he trusts Finance Minister Vilius Šapoka.

However, the Head of Government emphasizes that the decision on the introduction of said pension will be taken by the entire Cabinet of Ministers in a collegiate manner and finally by the Seimas.

“I really trust the minister and working together for 4 years, that trust in him never wavered. It is only the Minister who is talking about one decision or another, he is saying his opinion, we listen to it. The opinion of the Minister of Finance in probably all the Cabinets of Ministers is the opposite of that of the remaining ministers, ”said S. Skvernelis on Thursday on the radio news program“ Pozicija ”.

According to the prime minister, parliamentarians always make adjustments to the draft budget.

“The decision is taken by the Government in a collegiate manner and the final decision is made by the members of the Seimas. And if the members of the Seimas introduce corrections, this is the case in all budgets, then the Government has to look for a source of income ”, said S. Skvernelis.

The Prime Minister also stressed that the government’s conclusion on pension number 13 will be positive, but, Skvernel said, will consider how to implement it in a sustainable way.

“There will be a conclusion when we receive it from the Seimas Board (corrections – ELTA). (…) This is a collegiate decision and we will decide. In general it will be positive, but we will see how and to what extent the state could implement these possible obligations without exceeding expectations and without programming the problems of the state’s finances for the future ”, added the Prime Minister.

The government approved on Wednesday the draft of the state and municipal budgets for next year, ELTA recalls. Next year, the state budget is expected to receive 11,384 million. The credits will amount to 15,499 million euros. euros.

The project approved by the government does not yet contemplate pension number 13. As S. Skvernelis explained, if the Seimas adopts a law on the introduction of the thirteenth pension, the Government will provide sources of financing for it.

Zbignev Jedinskis, a member of Lithuania’s Polish election campaign faction, the Union of Christian Families proposing the amendment, said the 13th pension would reach 200 euros, to be paid in December each year.

However, Finance Minister V. Šapoka criticizes the proposal to introduce pension number 13. According to him, we should avoid long-term financial commitments.

President Gitan Nauseda, who met with the Association for the Elderly on Tuesday, also said that the proposed 13th pension is a less appropriate solution to the problem.
