The Delta became the 10th storm to hit US soil this year, forecasters said. So many storms have not been recorded in the entire history of observations.

The hurricane made landfall near Creole on the southwestern outskirts of Louisiana after a Category 2 storm with winds of about 155 km per hour, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.

“Devastating winds and a life-threatening stormy storm continue across much of southern Louisiana,” the Miami-based center added. At one of the NHC gauging stations, the storm dam’s water level was 2.4 meters above the ground.

The southwestern Louisiana town of Lake Charles, devastated by Hurricane Laura on August 20, is now on Delta Road. On Friday, the streets of the city were empty, with incessant rain.

Laura hit the ground like a Category 4 storm and ripped the roofs off the houses and uprooted many trees. There was still a lot of debris on the city streets on Friday.

“I don’t know if we’ll still have a house when we get back,” said Kimberly Hester, who lives in Lake Charles.

“I just pray to God every night that he at least has a house that we can go back to.”
