“Early this morning, evidence was found that a large-scale military parade with (military) equipment and large numbers of people took place in Kim Il Sung Square,” said a statement from Seoul’s chiefs of staff.
They added that “the event was closely monitored” by the intelligence agencies of South Korea and the United States.
This parade is part of the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the country’s ruling Workers’ Party.
Thousands of soldiers often march in events of this nature, followed by a series of armored vehicles and tanks. The culmination becomes a rocket demonstration.
These events are closely monitored by observers seeking information on the country’s weapons development processes.
As of early afternoon, state broadcaster KCNA had not released photos of a possible parade.
However, NK News cited multiple sources as saying they had heard the sounds of flying planes, drones and heavy equipment early Saturday morning.
