Earth is poured over the immortalized Ramanauskas-Vanags again: an infamous character appears

In recent years, the uninterrupted flow of propaganda from Kremlin spokesmen has been dominated by a clear narrative: the participants in Lithuania’s anti-Soviet protest were Nazis, fascists, murdered peaceful people, and now monuments to the murderers are being erected.

One of the brightest targets is A. Ramanauskas-Vanagas, who was brutally tortured by Soviet security guards and eventually buried in the orphanage cemetery in Vilnius.

The remains of the partisan commander found here 2 years ago were then solemnly buried in the nearby Antakalnis cemetery, and this week A. Ramanauskas-Vanagas had a monument dedicated to him, which was honored by the former and current head of the country.

Paradoxically, the personality of A. Ramanauskas-Vanagas again provoked the reaction of V. Titov, who spread the statements of the Kremlin spokesmen, although he had to say goodbye to his political career for making false statements about the guerrilla leader.

Warned of a wave of slander

On Tuesday, to mark the second anniversary of the funeral of the partisan commander A. Ramanauskas-Vanags, a monument dedicated to him was presented to the public at the Vilnius Antakalnis cemetery, costing almost 59.3 thousand. euros. The country’s leaders once again paid their respects.

“This monument to A. Ramanauskas-Vanagas is a monument to all his comrades (…) Today we can express our eternal gratitude and respect to the partisan commander,” said President Gitanas Nausėda at the solemn ceremony.

“This monument is very important because the person himself was the leader of the fighting Lithuania, but it was Lithuania itself, who rejected the lie, supposedly surrendered, was happy in slavery; we heard it a lot,” he told reporters Vytautas Landsbergis, the first leader of restored independent Lithuania. adding that the “struggle” and “resistance” are not over yet.

“Yes, unfortunately, the efforts of the Stribes and NKVD to eradicate the resistance and at the same time the idea of freedom continues,” Landsbergis said. Indeed, several articles soon appeared from Kremlin spokesmen, rubaltic.ru and baltnews.lt, openly repeating the same false statements based on the stories of the NKVD executioner Nacham Dushansky.

It is in the recent past that V. Titov squandered his statements a few years ago that A. Ramanauskas-Vanagas is responsible for the massacres of civilians. The Lithuanian Supreme Administrative Court has established that V. Titov, accusing the partisan commander Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas of killing innocent civilians, has broken the oath of a member of the Klaipėda City Council.

V. Titov did not wait for the impeachment process and resigned himself. In 2019, he was re-elected to the Klaipėda City Council, but the Klaipėda Regional Court made a final decision unfavorable to V. Titov in October, and after its entry into force, he lost his term as a member of the city council. This does not prevent Mr. Titov from expressing himself more.

What distorts the historical facts

“The distortion of history and historical facts has become a popular policy for the last 30 years. Now there is a particularly critical moment when the historical truth comes to light and is increasingly difficult to distort. Perhaps this is why the Baltic States and Poland make joint statements, “commenting on joint statements by Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland that condemn Russia’s” deplorable attempts to falsify history. “

However, the Lithuanian leaders who honored A. Ramanauskas-Vanaga, who was a former member of the Klaipėda Council, began to teach history from the obstacle of V. Titov.

“It is clear to everyone that in order to break the future, we need to distort the past. If we continue to idealize the Nazis, our children will view the murder of people for belonging to a national group as heroism. This is the road to nowhere for all of humanity when we repeat the mistakes of our history. To prevent this from happening, at this stage it is necessary to correct politicians and presidents for their speeches, they are also wrong ”, said V. Titov.

This year, he tried unsuccessfully to return to politics and even tried to enter the Seimas with several convicts: the party “Union of Fighters for Lithuania”, founded by Vytautas Šustauskas, tried to run. However, not only this party was registered in September: the CEC did not register the candidate of the former mayor of Kaunas, former MP V. Šustauskas in the single-member constituency, when it became clear that he transferred the deposit too late, the candidate and the party they lost the deposit.

At that time, V. Titov himself, who boasted of having collected more than 1.2 thousand. The signatures were also removed from a subsequent election campaign when it became clear that 341 signatures did not meet the requirements. Furthermore, the liquidation process was initiated by the Russian Lithuanian Union, of which V. Titov was a member, without the mandatory submission of the party members list three times in a row, in accordance with the current procedure.

Caught, tortured and murdered

A. Ramanauskas-Vanagas, born in 1918, was one of the most intelligent leaders of the resistance and was repeatedly tried to associate himself with the massacres of Jews and other civilians, although such accusations were not supported by any evidence, only by the statements of the executioners of the NKVD. A. Ramanauskas-Vanagas became a supporter in 1945.

A couple of years later, he began to lead the Dainava district and in 1948 he was appointed commander of the partisan region of southern Lithuania. A year later, he became the Vice President of the Presidium of the Lithuanian Freedom Fighting Movement Jonas Žemaitis, and in the early 1950s, the Commander of the Sąjūdis Defense Forces. In 1952-1953, A. Ramanauskas-Vanagas retired from active armed struggle and went into hiding with his family until 1956, when he was arrested. He was executed in 1957 after brutal torture.
