On the eve of the elections, there was a scandal between the “peasants” and the Presidency

Ruling leader Ramūnas Karbauskis’s outrage and even conversations that he no longer sees an opportunity to work with some members of the Presidency team were caused by the shared Facebook account of Jūratė Šovienė, President Gitanas Nausėda’s chief legal adviser. In it, the councilor satirically discusses the decision to vote for the “peasants” in the Seimas elections.

R. Karbauskis treats that comment by G. Nausėda’s senior adviser not only as agitation before the elections, but also as outright intimidation of the Lithuanian Union of Peasants and Greens (LVŽS). According to the leader of the “peasants”, the president should change the adviser or the LVŽS faction will not cooperate with such an adviser in the future.

On Thursday, J. Šovienė shared a story about his 81-year-old aunt on his Facebook account.

„- Is that why I am voting? – My 81-year-old aunt asks her client in the town of Central Lithuania. (He asks everyone the same thing before the elections).

– For the peasants.

– Come on, I’ll give you a book to read.

After a while he brings the Cabinet after reading and says:

– I will continue voting for the peasants. They are similar to the Soviets.

– Why are you Soviet?

– In Soviet times I lived well, built a house.

– So you stole in Soviet times! – The aunt raises her voice unbearably.

– Nu, tai jo … “, – writes J. Šovienė on his Facebook account.

R. Karbauskis: it is agitation and harassment

The leader of the “peasants” does not hide that he is the fourth adviser to the president, who shows discontent with the LVŽS. It seems strange to R. Karbauskis that G. Nausėda’s advisers behave completely differently to achieve constructive cooperation between institutions.

“The president has said that all parties and people will be equally fair, constructive, etc. In his rhetoric, the president avoids agitation and attacks, unlike Dalia Grybauskaitė (…), but his advisers do so through direct harassment. At this point, the president should be assessed whether he continues to claim that his advisers represent his position. In that case, I don’t see how the harassment can match the president’s position. This is in no way logical, “R. Karbauskis told Eltai.
R. Karbauskis is convinced that after such a publicly written comment, a constructive dialogue with the president’s adviser is difficult.

“This makes constructive cooperation impossible in principle. The man uses harassment in one of the stages of the election. Thank you very much, we think we received the message. I will reply to this message simply, without contacting an advisor of this guy on the committee that I chair. I really don’t know what Agnė Širinskienė will do, but I wouldn’t really communicate. (…) Either the president has to change adviser, or we will have to notify the president that, excuse him, we will not contact this adviser. If he is satisfied that we will not contact him, that is fine, “he said, adding that he had a hard time imagining how to work with J. Šoviene if his party won other Seimas elections.

“We do not understand or tolerate such things. If these advisers believe they are doing the right thing, imagine what will happen if LVŽS does not lose the election. How will they look us in the eye? How will he look into my eyes, Skvernel or anyone else? person this chief adviser when using bullying? How can an educated person, an adviser to the president, do it? This is low, “said R. Karbauskis.
The presidency: this is a personal opinion

The presidential spokesman, Antanas Bubnelis Eltai, pointed out that the publication published on the social network is the personal opinion of the adviser.

“I could only comment on the position of the Presidency,” he told Eltai.
