This decision, initiated by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, is said to be expected to encourage fans of electric scooters to follow safe driving rules more responsibly, to use bicycle lanes more and to protect pedestrians. of potentially dangerous situations.

The most active drivers of Bolt scooters have already realized that from now on, when driving through the central streets of the capital, it is not possible to reach the maximum speed. Such restriction was initiated by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Bolt was in charge of its implementation. It was decided to take appropriate action after an increasing number of unruly scooter drivers who ignore traffic rules, drive at high speeds and endanger both pedestrians and other road users, began to be stopped. on the city streets.

After several meetings with representatives of the electric scooter rental company, a general agreement was reached to improve the safety of pedestrians and scooter drivers, ensuring that electric scooters do not circulate on the sidewalks at high speeds. We hope that the social responsibility of this company, which deals with traffic safety, will encourage other companies that provide these services to take similar actions, ”says the Minister of Transport and Communications, Jaroslav Narkevič.

The new speed limits currently apply only in the central parts of Vilnius. Probably the most relevant place with the highest amount of traffic is Avenida Gediminas.

As of now, the maximum speed on both sides of this road is 15 km / h when driving on sidewalks, and the maximum speed limit is 25 km / h when driving normally. Restrictions also apply in the favorite pedestrian squares of Vincas Kudirka and Lukiškės: here, when riding with a Bolt electric scooter, the maximum speed reaches 15 km / h.

Additionally, when entering a limited speed zone, Bolt customers will hear an audible signal on the app informing them of the speed limit. Currently the reports are in English only, but they are expected to be translated into Lithuanian soon.

Bolt is the only Lithuanian company to have introduced speed limits and the first in Europe to have audio messages. We hope it will be an effective way to educate drivers and contribute to safe mobility in the city, so that both drivers and pedestrians are as safe as possible, ”says Eimantas Balta, director of development for electric scooters at Bolt at the Baltic countries.
