The Šiauliai team led by Antanas Sireika started the new Betsafe-LKL season with four losses of the same possible. Although the poor start is often corrected, Šiauliai suffered a much more painful failure: the team leader suffered a serious injury. Ryan anderson, who will not return to the basketball court this season.
R. Anderson was a man who at the beginning of the season gave the fans of the club “Šiauliai” hope and faith that everything can be good for the team.
In a context of losses, this 206 cm tall American became the undisputed leader of the team and registered an average of 14.7 points and 8 rebounds.
However, in the fourth game of the season against the Prienai CBet team, R. Anderson was on the field for just 20 seconds, this is his last moment on the field this season.
R. Anderson rescued the attack of “Šiauliai” caught in the rival defense, which had six seconds left. The American, who had the ball in his hands, decided to run under the basket, but soon fell to the ground and began to scream in pain. The basketball player tore the ligaments in his knee.
Cruciate ligament injury in almost all cases means a full season without basketball. The basketball player who heard this diagnosis at Šiauliai Hospital had difficulty collecting words; speaking to LKL.lt, he admitted that it was probably the hardest thing he had to experience in his entire career.
“It is very difficult. We started the season with several defeats, those games against Prienai were very important for us, we all knew with what humor we were going to play, we all wanted to win. Now I feel sadness, anger and frustration. Of course, life goes on, I have I have to stay in, but it’s indescribably difficult for a basketball player. I hope to come back stronger, “Anderson said.
And although a few days have passed since the fatal attack, the basketball player remembers that moment as if it had just happened.
“I’ve done those moves a million times in my life. I can’t explain why this happened. I saw that there was little time left for our attack, so I knew I had to continue. I took a step with my left foot, everything was fine, then I walked to the right and something seemed to blow my way, I don’t want to remember that moment, but the feeling that something there just fell apart. This is without a doubt the most difficult trauma of my career, nothing like this has happened ” Anderson said sadly.
Now legionnaire Šiauliai is waiting for an operation in Lithuania, after which he will travel home and continue his rehabilitation in Los Angeles.
But the saddest thing, according to the basketball player himself, is not the wait, but the fact that he felt deep inside before the start of the season, it will be the year of his development as a professional. Speaking to LKL.lt, he even admitted that he had probably never felt better in his life before the injury.
“It just came to my knowledge then. In the summer, I constantly prepared for this season, I felt great. You know, I think I’ve never felt better in my career. I knew it could be a good season. Nothing can be sadder than months to prepare for a season and finish it as soon as it starts. But it’s part of basketball, I have to accept it, “Anderson opened.
This is not the first time 27-year-old Amersa fans have seen Betsafe-LKL fans in Lithuania. In 2017, R. Anderson represented Pasvalys’ Milk Stars, but even then he was detained for trauma. He also returned to compete here not only for himself, as the basketball player himself says, he was brought to Lithuania out of the desire to demonstrate his ability in one of the strongest leagues in Europe.
“I came back because I felt like I wasn’t fully exposed while I was at Pasvalys; then, just like now, I was bothered by the trauma. I wanted to come back here and show people that I can and can play better. Unfortunately, it happened as it did …
It’s a really strong league. All ten teams are physically strong and talented. But what gets headshoted first are the fans who love basketball here endlessly. It’s not difficult to understand them, after all, Lithuanian teams have a deep and victorious history, ”R. Anderson told LKL.lt.
Severe trauma stopped Anderson just as he appeared to discover his team. The player awaiting the operation sensitively ended the conversation by saying that Šiauliai is the best stop in his entire career. Therefore, there is no reason to believe that the basketball player will also wear a yellow jersey next season.
“It’s hard to say how it will be later, but I will be open. I have never felt so good during my professional career as I was here in Šiauliai. When I suffered an injury, I told my colleagues and staff that it was the best period of my I hope I can come back here. It was something I will never forget, “Anderson said sensitively.
He began his professional career in 2016, when he joined the Antwerp Giants team competing in Belgium. Last season, Anderson played in Ukraine, where he represented MBC Mykolaiv.
