The elder from the Kupiškis district put the shaker in place with gifts.

Delfi received a video from sources in which the woman said that one day she simply received unexpected guests.

“He knocked on the door. “Who is here?” I say. “We came to visit (…)”, he says. Because women were, that’s what I opened up to. I say maybe some scams, in the middle of the day. It says: “We brought gifts for the elections. We walked to vote for ourselves. “I say: ‘I still don’t know why I’m going to vote. There is a television, two radios and another in the kitchen, a third. We will talk to our friends about what we choose,” said the grandmother, whose Delfi identity promised not to reveal.

After contacting the old man, the woman recalled that it happened just over two months ago. Three unexpected guests, according to the interlocutor, did not show up.

“I neither introduced myself nor listened to them. I said: “I am smart in what I want, I will vote,” he said.

A resident of the Kupiškis district said that the guests who came to the house put gifts on the table: knitted socks, jars of green beans and jam, on which a sticker with a social democratic red rose was attached.

The woman has not presented herself to the electoral commission so far, she only told her friends.

“And now I have left, I just had a cherry jam. I don’t have cherries, “said Grandma.

A party can have drawbacks

Even though the event is no longer new, the party may feel uncomfortable with such agitated behavior.

“The electoral campaign began on April 10. The Seimas Elections Law establishes that from the beginning of the electoral campaign it is forbidden to buy directly or indirectly the votes of voters through gifts and other remuneration to encourage or not participate in the elections, vote for or against one or another person to be nominated, etc. perhaps those actions were not entirely legitimate, because, although it is a story several months ago, they were already taking place during the campaign period. They cannot be distributed gifts during the campaign ”, commented Laura Matjošaitytė, president of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).

Even gifts like a jar of jam could be investigated by the CEC.

“Nobody distributes free jams. If we look at the law, what it allows voters to share would be brochures, calendars, postcards, activity stickers, election programs, biographies or other informational content.

The distribution of jams is not included in that list, although they are marked with the logo of the lot. Another thing is that this year we do not have the trivial items that we had in previous elections in previous years. (…) The Seimas Elections Law does not provide for the distribution of trivial items to voters after the start of a political campaign. Such actions could be equated with bribery of voters. In that case, we should explain the circumstances in more detail, and it is possible that it will be recognized that the Seimas Elections Law has been violated, ”said L. Matjošaitytė.

The interlocutor encouraged the elder or other voters who had experienced similar behavior to contact the CEC.

“We need to know more about how things were, how many of those jars were given? Isn’t that the usual way this box arrives? So we should ask the parties what the promotions are here. Perhaps there are more older or younger people. Then we could decide if there was a violation and to what extent, ”said L. Matjošaitytė.

The party did not organize campaigns to share jam

The chairman of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, Gintautas Paluckas, said only after learning of such divisions from Delfi.

“I never share, although I would love to share jams with my grandmothers. It’s fun and good to do, but if the law doesn’t allow it, you can’t. If someone did it out of agitation or with a good heart, now the problem arises, then, I do not even know how to evaluate. There are many candidates, single-member members and even more supporters, ”commented G. Paluckas.

In general, the party president advocated for the law itself to be relaxed, which provides for agitation rules.

“If you made the jam yourself, there are some micro quantities, would you buy a person for the jam? Nenupriksi. People don’t give up their pension for 200 euros, and here is the jam,” said G. Paluckas.
