“It is regrettable that the decisions necessary for the continuity and liquidity of the tourism sector are delayed. If that decision had been made a month or two ago, tour operators could have offered more flights and more tourists would have had the opportunity to go on vacation, ”said Milda Plepytė-Rainienė, executive director of the association.
“It would be possible to speak of Italy, which now belongs to the list of safe countries, when there is no requirement of self-isolation when returning, but its indicator is growing and the possibility of going to Italy can only be for a very short time,” added the Mrs. Plepytė-Rainienė.
According to her, tour operators are operating flights to Cyprus and plan to resume flights to Greece.
According to M. Plepytė-Rainienė, Cyprus has decided to include Lithuania in the list of countries for which a test on arrival is required that the result of the coronavirus test is negative.
“As Lithuania’s morbidity rate grows, Cyprus passed a resolution and moved Lithuania from List A to List B and (upon arrival from ELTA), List B countries must have a negative test result “said M. Plepytė-Rainienė.
He also argued that the tourism sector lacks regional separation.
“Greece is seen as a state, but if we took individual islands or individual regions, there would be room for more flights.” Or, in the case of Portugal or Spain, comparing the incidence rate of the Madeira Islands with the incidence rate of Portugal itself, tour operators could operate more flights, especially as the summer season draws to a close and becomes relevant for autumn destinations such as the Canary Islands or (…) Madeira ”, said the association’s executive director.
The government decided this Wednesday to include in the list of affected countries those with a morbidity rate of 10% in the last two weeks. and more exceeded Lithuania’s morbidity rate.
It was also decided that the inclusion of third countries in the list of affected countries requires the possibility of evaluating additional epidemiological criteria: test volume rate, percentage of positive test results, availability of information, hospitalization rate.
According to the current procedure, the state was included in the list of affected countries when the morbidity rate in it is 25 or more new cases per 100,000. population in the last 14 calendar days.
