According to A. Beglaryan, residents who were forced to relocate due to the fighting seek refuge in other parts of the disputed territory or flee to Armenia and other areas.

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh resumed more than a week ago. The region most inhabited by Armenians separated from Azerbaijan in 1991.

Both sides heeded calls for a ceasefire and blamed each other for further clashes. New fights will take place on September 27.

Stepanakert, the main city of Nagorno-Karabakh, continually attacked by Azerbaijani forces, has turned into a ghost town.

Almost 290 people have died since the fighting began, including more than 47 civilians. There are fears that the fighting will escalate into a multi-front war involving the region’s influential states, Turkey and Russia.

Azerbaijan is also accusing Armenian forces of firing at civilian targets in urban areas, including the country’s second-largest city, Ganges, home to more than 330,000 people. It has not yet been determined how many people in Azerbaijan have been relocated because of the fighting.
