Šakiai “Vytis”, represented by the Lavrinovičius brothers, won an impressive victory at the start of the King Mindaugas Cup (KMT), which in front of his fans 81:66 (12:19, 27:17, 18:18, 24:12) broke the Kėdainiai team “Nevėžis-Optibet” that competes in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL).
This is the first time in the history of the King Mindaugas Cup that the National Basketball League (NKL) team broke the LKL club. The NKL teams competing in KMT since the 2018-2019 season have lost all the matches played.
The next stage will be the team, which will have a better ratio of points scored and lost after two games. The second match will take place on October 27 in Kėdainiai.
At the meeting, the boss of “Nevėžis” could not get behind the wheel of his team. coach Marius Kiltinavičius, who missed the game due to illness and was replaced by assistant Šarūnas Ciparis.
The match was better started by the guests of K betterdainiai, who organized a streak at the end of the quarter – 9: 2 and after the first half had a 7-point lead (19:12).
However, in the second half, Erikas Kučiauskas’ students not only managed to recover, but also break the match in their favor. While playing from the notes and scoring as many as 27 points during the quarter, the Vytis basketball players took the long break with 39:36.
After the break, the view of the site did not change. Vytis kept his lead, at the end of the third quarter Laurynas Samėnas took both penalties and after 30 minutes of pure play the hosts went ahead (57:54).
With more than 6 minutes to play, Nevėžis basketball players reduced the gap to a minimum (64:65) after Vaidas Kariniauskas double point, but Kėdainiai people could not catch up: Vytis organized a powerful jet (16 : 2) and celebrated their first mutual victory, thus accumulating a solid 15-point lead over the counter-duel.
