The Hot Feet project was started by the quality media movement Media4Change and the Center for Investigative Journalism Siena.
According to the initiator, the system combines in one place declarations of interest from politicians and senior officials, information on public procurement and investment from the European Union, which covers tens of billions of euros.
Neringa Jurčiukonytė, Director of Media4Change, said at a press conference that the entire database focuses on the transparency of public data.
“It is a tool that will help reveal the connections of public funds with those who administer them: politicians and officials. We want to emphasize that this is a tool for everyone, it can be used by everyone, until now it has not been so easy to analyze a billion figures, ”said N. Jurčiukonytė.
According to the author of the Idea, Siena director Šarūnas Černiauskas, it has so far been difficult to analyze these publicly available data, because they have not been combined into one whole.
“Here, it can be said, is the thought of a data journalist, transferred to a computer and ‘fed’ with an enormous amount of data (…) “Hot feet brings all the data together into one whole,” he said.
According to him, the database is based on the Linkurious platform, which was also used in the publication of documents from Panama documents; the system allows different data to be linked and compared with a few keystrokes.
The authors of the idea emphasize that the data presented here allows verifying various political and commercial connections, but does not by themselves discriminate against abuse, nepotism or corruption.
