“For tactical reasons, the army has withdrawn its forces to avoid unnecessary losses and to do more damage to enemy forces,” wrote Vahram Poghosian, spokesman for the Nagorno-Karabakh presidency, on Facebook.
He said the Armenian forces had made “tangible gains” at the front and said he would provide details to “avoid speculation.”
At the time, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said that some Armenian separatist forces had fled and “were leaving their combat positions without permission”.

Separatist and Azerbaijani forces have been fighting for Nagorno-Karabakh, an enclave with a population of ethical Armenians that separated from Azerbaijan during the war of the 1990s, since September 27.
These battles are the fiercest since the ceasefire was declared in 1994. At least 260 people have reportedly been killed in the renewed conflict and fighting has escalated in recent days.
