The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh became complicated on September 27, with clashes in the disputed area. Military state imposed on Azerbaijan and Armenia, announced the mobilization. Yerevan denies this and reports that shots are also being fired against Armenian territory.
The Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh began in February 1988, when the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenian Autonomous Region declared its withdrawal from the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. In September 1991, the establishment of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic was announced at the Stepanakert Autonomous Administrative Center. As a result of the military conflict, Azerbaijan lost control of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Negotiations for a peaceful solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh problem have been under way since 1992, but have so far failed.
