According to the report from the municipality of Neringa, the central part of the complex will be more adapted to the abundant pedestrian flows.
The territory will be managed between the restricted streets of Nagliai, Taikos, the tourist and cultural information center of Nida “Agila” and the Nagliai 29 building complex.
The central area of the Nida settlement will be divided into several spaces: the central square, the alley, the station square, the lighthouse road. These spaces will be formed by green recreation areas, the so-called islands, formed from planted areas. Each island will consist of raised and planted elements with wooden benches around it.
The first “island” will be created in front of the building of the Neringa municipality, surrounded by existing pine trees. It is planned to install a pavement fountain there.
The trail of the glory of the stars will rise to the seashore in the sculpture in memory of Vytautas Kernagis.
The second “island” for a more peaceful rest will be formed in front of the Agila building of the Nida Culture and Tourism Information Center, hugging the existing trees: chestnut and oak. A third “island” is provided between the shopping center building and the bus station. Here a waiting area and a meeting room will be created.
A fourth “island” that separates the pedestrian zone from the parking lot will be formed in front of the “Kuršis” restaurant. Here, unlike other “islands”, the green areas will not be raised.
A green area, surrounded by high retaining walls on which wooden benches will be installed, is formed around the municipal building and the Nagliai 25 plot.
The pavement of Taikos and Naglių streets near the central part of the Nida settlement will be changed from asphalt to pavement. In this way, the objective will be to emphasize the center of the city, and the continuity of the pedestrian pavement will reduce the limits created by the streets. The road will be separated from the pedestrian by small columns.
On the roads of Naglių and Taikos streets, bicycle traffic is planned, marking the pavement with 1.5-meter-wide zones on both sides of the streets. Bicycle traffic is not foreseen in the pedestrian zone. Bicycle storage space will be provided at each entrance to the area, for a total of 102.
After reconstruction, the total number of parking spaces will not change: 49 spaces will remain. The parking lot in front of the municipality will be slightly reduced and the restaurant “Kuršis” will be transformed.
The construction contract for the second phase of the central part of Nida has been signed with the Gilesta company. Its price – 2 million. 177 thousand euros.
The works are expected to be completed within 18 months.
