“I claim that Putin is behind this action, I see no other explanation,” Navaln told the German weekly Der Spiegel. Excerpts from the interviews were posted on the publication’s website on Thursday.
On August 20, Navaln became ill and lost consciousness while flying from the Siberian city of Tomsk to Moscow. After an emergency landing, he was treated for more than a day at the Omsk City Hospital and transferred to the Charite University Hospital in Berlin on August 22.
On September 2, German officials, based on the findings of the country’s military laboratory, announced that traces of poison from the group of nerve paralyzing substances created by the Soviets Novičiok were found in the body of A. Navaln. Material from the same group, according to London, poisoned former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury, England in 2018.
France and Sweden independently confirmed Germany’s findings.
The Kremlin has denied allegations of having contributed to the Navaln poisoning and accused Western leaders of conducting a disinformation campaign.
A month after Charite’s treatment, a 44-year-old Kremlin critic was discharged, doctors said he could make a full recovery.
Since awakening from a coma in early September, Navalnas has been active on social media.
Last week, he posted a photo on Instagram of himself sitting on a bench in Berlin and wrote that he was far from recovering from needing rehab.
“The plans are still simple: a physical therapist every day. Maybe a rehab center. Stand on one leg. Start over with full control of your fingers. Keep your balance, “he wrote.
“Gift for Putin”
“I will not give Putin a gift without returning to Russia,” Navaln said, adding that his “task is to strengthen himself as soon as possible” so that he can “return.”
In an interview that lasted almost two hours, he provided gruesome details about how he crashed into the plane.
Navaln told the crew that he had been poisoned and fell to the ground.
“Then I heard voices that became quieter; one woman urged, “Don’t faint!” So that’s it. I knew she was dead. Only later did I realize that I was wrong, ”said A. Navalnas.
A. Navaln described the moment when the toxic substance began to act.
“Don’t feel any pain, but you know you are going to die,” he said.
Despite this experience, he promised to return to Russia to continue his activities.
“I will continue to travel the regions of Russia, live in hotels and drink water in rooms. What else can I do?” You will not do much against Putin’s invisible assassins, “he said.
For the moment, the opposition remains in Berlin with his wife and son.
“In the morning I take a walk in the park, that’s my task, then I exercise with my doctor and at night I walk again,” Navalnas said.
He also said that he had started juggling “to improve coordination so that the hands move in the same direction as the eyes.”
“Putin saved lives”
In response to the opposition’s allegations, Russian State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin said Thursday that Putin, Russian doctors and pilots had saved Navaln’s life.
“Putin saved his life. If what happened to him was organized by Western special services, then his statement follows this logic. He was sincerely rescued by everyone from pilots and doctors to the president … Only an indecent person can make such statements. ”Said V. Volodin, whose words are quoted on the official website of the State Duma.
“It is quite clear that Navaln is working with Western authorities and special services,” he added.
Navaln also promised to return to Russia in full in the interview and said he would not please Putin in his exile.
“Not going back would mean that Putin has achieved his goal. And my job now is to remain a person who is not afraid,” he said.
