Zbignev Jedinski, one of the promoters of the bill, a member of the LLRA-KŠS faction, explained that the thirteenth pension would be a benefit of 200 euros, which would be paid to the elderly before Christmas. According to him, the implementation of this proposal would require 120 million. euros.

“There will be more than 120 million euro, we offer a source of financing: in the Seimas there is a drawer for the taxation of bank assets. According to calculations, this tax would cover the costs of a single pension,” said Z. Jedinskis.

Skvernelis: You need to look at the sources

At the Seimas on Thursday, intending to present a proposal for the payment of 13 pensions, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis says it will be necessary to see if there will be sources to do so, ELTA wrote.

“I have no doubt that it will be approved after the presentation. (…) After that, there will be a government conclusion and the government will find the source or not,” S. Skvernelis told reporters in the Seimas on Thursday .

“There are different ways to help a social group. (…) This may be through indexing, but if there are opportunities for such additional benefits (for ELTA), it is worth doing. But I repeat, we have to look at the sources, “added S. Skvernelis.

The prime minister stressed that the amount needed for this step is not small, but the situation with the public debt is under control.

“The debt in Lithuania will not be drastic, the situation is manageable, stable after this year, but we will present next year’s budget at the government meeting on October 14 and present the budget according to the principle we follow: responsible finance. , spending planning, revenue collection, “said the Prime Minister.

Conservatives and liberals: this is a pre-election issue

Gabrielius Landsbergis, chairman of the Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party-National Union, saw this proposal as a setback before the elections. Even in the pre-election period, politicians would be inclined to be skeptical of such a proposal.

“It just came to our notice then. So why not increase pensions if there is so much money in the state?” G. Landsbergis asked.

Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, president of the Liberal Movement, also saw these proposals in the context of the upcoming elections.

“Today the Electoral Law says that you cannot give even a pen to the elderly, because it is a bribe, but LLRA-KŠS offers 180 million. for the thirteenth pension one week before the elections. He shows double standards and great cynicism.

We can talk about the thirteenth pension, new benefits with the budget, considering the real situation and the growing debt, ”said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.

Rasa Budbergytė, the largest of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party faction in the Seimas, agreed that pensions in Lithuania are too low and that domestic consumption will be the main factor in stimulating the economy next year.

“But speaking of which, I think the thirteenth pension will not save our retiree. We could support the fourteenth, fifteenth and seventeenth pensions, but this is all borrowed money and you have to be very careful, ”said R. Budbergytė.

According to the parliamentarian, at the presentation stage, the majority of the members of her group will support this proposal.

The thirteenth pension would be paid from December of next year

According to the SNB, deputies will decide on Thursday whether to consider a proposal for a thirteenth pension of € 200.

Vanda Kravčionok and Z. Jedinskis, representatives of the Lithuanian Polish Electoral Action Christian Family Union faction, plan to present amendments to the Law on One-Time Benefits for Recipients of Social Security Pensions and Social Security Benefits to the Seimas.

They offer to pay the thirteenth pension annually starting in December of next year.

The Minister of Social Security and Labor Linas Kukuraitis has appointed the single pension of 200 euros initiated by the government due to the coronary crisis and already paid in August to all pensioners.

The average old-age pension in Lithuania in July amounted to 377 euros, and the pension for those with the required seniority – 399 euros.
