Lukiki Square remains under the care of the Vilnius City Municipality. The proposals presented by the municipality on how to improve the loan contract for Lukiki Square with the National Land Service (RE) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were suitable for the latter institution, so both institutions should sign an agreement to renew the loan agreement in the near future, reports the Municipality of Vilnius.

The dialogue was successful and important additions were made to the loan contract or the future plan, so we have guarantees that Lukiki Square will be able to maintain its central functions, which are common to all municipalities, freedom of expression, openness and urban integrity. Deputy Mayor Vytautas Mitalas.

The municipality is awaiting the Government’s response to the monument in Lukiki Square, as two different decisions are currently in force.

the additions proposed by the capital to the loan contract and to the contract that accompanies the loan contract to include provisions that define that Lukiki Square must be a space open to the public, combining representation, leisure, self-sufficiency and other functions of European cities, and the memorial planned in it should not divide society, but bring it together and breathe it, says the municipal report.

It was also agreed that the action plan would be prepared in accordance with the principles of good Western practice, urban integrity, sustainable development, aesthetics and other architectural quality criteria provided for in the Architecture Law.

According to V. Mitalas, the compromises found allow us to ensure that Lukiki Square will continue to better serve the residents of Vilnius and that there will be a habitable space for leisure, historical and representative events of the city.
