A correspondent for the Interfax news agency reports that on the 50th day of the protests in Minsk, law enforcement officers surrounded Aliaksand Lukashenko’s residence, the Palace of Independence.
The residence also houses at least five armored vehicles, military trucks, and cars loaded with coils of barbed wire.
The state flag square was surrounded by militiamen and soldiers armed with Kalashnikov machine guns.
It is also surrounded by places where opposition supporters traditionally gather and protection of the main squares in the city center has been strengthened.
Meanwhile, protesters gather in the sleeping areas and move in larger groups towards the stele “Minsk – the hero of the city”.
Law enforcement officials are trying to prevent protesters from gathering in the city center and have already made arrests.
