Listen to Radiohead ‘Creep’ in the style of Deftones

A YouTuber who performs songs in various styles has uploaded a cover of the breakthrough of Radiohead’s single from 1993, ‘Creep’, adapted for Deftones fans.

Anthony Vincent of the YouTube channel Ten Second Songs shared his rendition today (August 21) on the same day that Deftones’ ‘Ohm’ was released, the first single and title track of the alt-metal band’s ninth album.

In the clip, Vincent uses heavily digested, reverb-loaded guitars to restore Deftones’ signature epic style, adding his breathing to his voice as he exits his sounds to sound more Chino Moreno than Thom Yorke.

Deftones have meanwhile announced that ‘Ohms’ – the sequel to ‘Gore’ of 2016 – will arrive on September 25.

In an interview with NME, frontman Chino Moreno opened up about the reflective nature of lyrics on the new album. “When the last song is on the record, it becomes in retrospect the kind of song – it does not look back at the party of songs that preceded it, but our lives and our surroundings,” he said.

‘The verses reflect, but the chorus type says,’ Yes this, but this’ – it says that time will change with the decisions we make. It is a question and an answer.

“The very first line of the song is ‘We are surrounded by puns from the past’. That is not directly about one thing. It could be about an experience or a relationship, but honestly in my mind I thought about the environment, the world and the Earth. The choir says we will stay here together and that will not change anything. “

Moreno concluded: “It is a dichotomy of reflection on negative things, but coming out of optimism.”

Deftones are one of several acts confirmed for next year’s Download Festival, joining KISS, System Of A Down and Biffy Clyro at Leicestershire’s Donington Park.
