LG’s self-cleaning headphones are now available in the US for $ 149.99

LG’s latest true wireless headphones, whose case has a UV light to kill bacteria in the headphones, are now available in the US for $ 149.99. The HBS-FN6 Tone Free headphone case has UV light that kills 99.9 percent of bacteria in the headphone speaker mesh, LG says. The company unveiled the technology with last year’s Tone Plus Free headphones, which launched in South Korea.

Outside of its self-cleaning case, you can expect a more typical range of features from LG’s true Tone Free wireless headphones. Battery life is up to six hours from the headphones, and you’ll get an additional 12 hours of charging from the case for a total of 18 hours. There is no active noise cancellation, but the dual headphone microphones should reduce background noise when making calls. An environmental transfer mode is available for when you need to hear what’s going on around you, and its case supports wireless charging.

The idea of using ultraviolet light to sterilize devices has become increasingly popular, with multiple companies, including Samsung, launching wireless chargers that are also advertised as capable of cleaning your electronic devices. They are particularly attractive at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic means we have to be especially hygiene conscious, but it is important to remember that sterilizing your electronic devices is not a substitute for measures like washing your hands, socially distancing yourself and using a mask.

Along with the HBS-FN6, LG has also announced two additional cheaper models. There’s the $ 129.99 HBS-FN5W that has a similar design and the same battery life, but lacks the UV sterilization case, and the $ 99.99 HBS-FN4 that has a case that doesn’t support wireless charging and also lacks of UV light function.
