Lee Westwood
Lee Westwood retired from the 2018 PGA Championship due to a back injury, marking the first time the tournament was missed since 1996. He will lose it again in 2020 … but not due to injury.
Despite lifting a two-week quarantine, Westwood, a two-time PGA winner who finished tied for fourth in the 2020 Honda Classic, will not play in next week’s WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis or the PGA 2020 Championship. in two weeks in San Francisco, saying he is “even more concerned that the United States will not take [COVID-19] as seriously as the rest of the world. “
“I still don’t feel comfortable and I don’t think it’s okay to jump on a plane for 12 hours,” he told The Scotsman. “I have felt out of my comfort zone this week, so if I come to Memphis, I would be uncomfortable playing golf tournaments right now.”
“I have been playing Tour for 28 years and this is a shock to the system, isn’t it? Every time I go out to play tournaments now it’s almost about seeing my teammates and the sociable element of everything and you’re not getting it right now.
“You finish playing golf and go to the field. I’ve never seen so many players on the field at 8 o’clock at night trying to avoid their hotel rooms. They really think about where to play.”

Duvernay-Tardif
Last weekend, I conducted Hot Clicks with notes on the NFL’s foreclosure program for players who aren’t comfortable playing the season. Players have until 5 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 1 to opt out of their 2020 contract, receive $ 150,000 (less any amount already received in 2020), and reinstate their contract in 2021.
On Friday night, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif became the first player to unsubscribe. The Chiefs’ starting right guard “will not play this year and will instead continue to work in an orderly manner in a long-term care facility in Canada, helping to fight COVID-19,” Adam Schefter reported. The Quebec native, one of four NFL-playing medical school graduates (and the only asset) has two years remaining on a five-year, $ 41.25 million extension he signed in 2017. You can read his full statement. here.
