LeBron James ‘Making things a little different’

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers are just two weeks away from the game and hope it will result in a championship.

While this season is unlike anything the NBA has ever seen, winning the title will feel the same, if not more challenging. Players have had to make incredible sacrifices to be a part of it, packing up and going to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida for over three months.

This is especially true for James, who left behind a series of personal luxuries that he has been able to afford after an all-time great career. People like his personal chef and masseuse didn’t make the trip to Orlando with James, and while that may be due to limitations on the size of the travel party, James was reported to have made the decision on his own.

James wanted to go through the same as the rest of his team, and not have luxuries that go beyond what his teammates have, and he cited it as a “we’re all in this together” attitude, according to Chris Haynes via from TNT:

“LeBron is changing things. On campus he’s doing things a little differently. Sources told me that he has not brought in his personal chef, his personal masseuse, or brought in his extended security team. He wants to make sure he is going through all the (same) rigors of his teammates on this campus to make sure he is mixing and going through everything they are experiencing.

“LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Quinn Cook, I have sometimes seen them wandering around campus, just walking around and getting a period of union. LeBron James is clearly trying to send a message that ‘we are all in this together’. That is one of their ways of trying to show that you are out there with them doing what they are doing and that you are eating exactly the same food. “

While it sounds a little absurd to congratulate James for going three months without a personal chef and masseuse, things that most people will never experience, it does speak to his commitment to the bubble.

James has had these benefits for years, and earned them, but being willing to give them up shows that he wants to fight the same battle as his teammates. Things like eating the same food, receiving the same care, and being in the same places as teammates like Quinn Cook and Anthony Davis show that you don’t want special treatment.

Part of James’ commitment to life in the bubble and his teammates came with having the same free time as them, and that includes video games.

James, Davis, and Cook caused chaos for 2K’s servers when they joined The Neighborhood in NBA 2K20. Cook was broadcasting live to all three Lakers players in the game and attracted large numbers of players while other players were able to locate them via Cook’s broadcast.

Video games are a great way to kill time, and when everyone is quarantined in their hotel rooms, it’s the right thing to do.
