He said that Venezuela has made remarkable progress in research related to the “Covid-19” virus, as well as Iran, “and we can participate in the exchange of information.”
The Iranian foreign minister indicated that during his talks in Venezuela, he addressed “international affairs and the need for countries under pressure from the United States to stand side by side and affirm the rule of law and the Charter of the United Nations and cooperate together. to overcome illegal embargoes “.
Zarif stressed that “cooperation between Iran and Venezuela will be strengthened in the field of the oil industry,” adding: “We have endured American pressure for 40 years, and if we wanted to give up, we would have done so long ago.”
Regarding US threats to Iran-Venezuela arms cooperation, Zarif said that “defense cooperation between Iran and Venezuela is completely legal.”
He continued: “The United States tried to extend arms restrictions to Iran in the UN Security Council, but suffered a terrible defeat, and thus has resorted to its old-fashioned strategy of arrogance and threats to the states.”
Zarif indicated that Iran and Venezuela “did not allow the United States to practice arrogance” and expressed “confidence that this pace of cooperation will continue.”
He said: “Our cooperation is completely legal and we will continue to cooperate with Venezuela, including in the field of defense. We believe that Venezuela has the right to buy military equipment from whoever it wants, and this is not a United States business in any way.
Regarding the imposition of a new US embargo on Iran, Zarif cited what US President Donald Trump’s national security adviser said, “who said there is no significant ban left to impose on Iran.”
Previously, Zarif was in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, where he met with his counterpart, Jorge Ariza, the then president Nicolás Maduro, and the development of bilateral relations between the two countries was discussed.
During a speech at the Caracas Forum, the Iranian Foreign Minister affirmed that “the era of Western hegemony has come to an end” and that the United States “can no longer control the course of events in the world.”
