WashingtonUS authorities confirmed that they arrested a person on Sunday in a case involving an envelope containing ricin toxin that was sent to President Donald Trump at the White House.
According to media reports, the suspect is a woman who was in possession of a pistol when she was detained by the authorities.
“I can confirm that the arrest took place at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo, New York,” said US Customs and Border Protection official Aaron Booker, referring to the bridge linking Canada and New York state.
And US media reported on Saturday that authorities had intercepted an envelope addressed to Trump that contained a substance identified as ricin.
The message was discovered earlier in the week but did not reach the White House, according to the “New York Times” and “CNN.”
Mail destined for the White House is first checked and sorted at facilities outside of Washington.
The ricin substance that is extracted from castor beans is highly toxic and leads to death within a few minutes of being ingested, inhaled or injected because it causes the human body to fail and there is no known antidote for it.
