The results of experiments with a Chinese vaccine for the emerging coronavirus were disappointing in Brazil and contradicted the results previously obtained in other countries.
And the website of the prestigious scientific journal “Nature” reported that researchers in Brazil have concluded that the effectiveness of the “Coronavac” vaccine introduced by China does not exceed 50.4 percent in preventing severe and moderate Corona infection.
And the researchers found that the effectiveness of the Chinese vaccine is much lower than the effectiveness of some vaccines that have been reached in the world.
The Brazilian team announced in previous experiments last week that the effectiveness of the vaccine is up to 78 percent, and the “Botantan Institute” said that clinical trials of the vaccine produced by the Chinese laboratory “Sinovac” met the conditions of effectiveness “established by the World Health Organization, without publishing the results of the experiments.
But the results this week were different, and the team attributed the reason for the previous results to the criteria that were adopted to select the injured who need medical attention.
Furthermore, current results show that the efficacy of the vaccine is much lower than the results obtained at the beginning of the trials in Turkey and Indonesia.
And Turkey announced in December that initial tests on 7,371 volunteers in Turkey showed that the Chinese vaccine was 91.25 percent effective, while a third trial in Indonesia showed 65.3 percent effectiveness.
The researchers believe that the vaccine, despite its low efficacy compared to other vaccines, can be used in several countries to reduce deaths due to the Corona virus.
The report quotes Hilda Bastian, from Bond University in Gold Coast, Australia, as saying the vaccine could be used in countries that have no other options.
The World Health Organization had set the efficacy rate at 50 percent, but some labs, such as Pfizer and Biontech, reported an efficacy rate greater than 90 percent.
It is noteworthy that the spread of the pandemic in most regions of the world has intensified during the last seven days, with 724,700 injuries per day (a 10 percent increase compared to the previous week).
