The head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Deputy Gebran Bassil, said: “Today the danger is of a second type, so we call it October 13 economically, because the danger is financial and economic and threatens Lebanon with its disappearance.” And he continued: “If the confrontation is traditional with the military, we win it and we win it first, and if the confrontation is traditional in politics, we win it. But the economic and financial confrontation is to bring the country to its knees, and the weapon is the dollar, which is our weakness for that in the economic confrontation, and our people cannot bear the financial confrontations ”. He added: “People are worried about them and interested in breaking us. This is the equation ”.
Bassil noted that “we are not aware that French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed anyone to oversee his initiative and examine the blocks to see the extent of his commitment to the initiative.” And he continued: “Whoever wants to lead a government of specialists must be the first specialist or move on to another specialist.” In the current, today we see an opportunity not only to save the country through the French initiative, but also through a constitutional amendment to avoid the vacancy of the executive branch.
Bassil said: “The constitutional amendment that we are proposing and that will be presented by the strong Lebanese bloc is based on two ideas: the first is to oblige the president of the republic to a maximum term that does not exceed one month to set a date for parliamentary consultations, provided of course they are linked by their results, but not limited to MPs to determine their options as they are. They think, and the second is to force the head of government to be assigned a maximum period of one month to form a government and to obtain the approval and signature of the President of the Republic on the authorship decree, otherwise it will be considered as an apology legal and will reopen the period of month granted to the President of the Republic for consultations.
On the financial front, Bassil believed, “The need to change the existing policy since the 1990s and apply a reverse policy by reducing interest, securing loans for the economy and restructuring the banking sector so that it is an engine of the economy that does not it’s frozen”.
Regarding the Senate, Basilio said: “We put all our differences and distinctions, and we establish a council based on our sectarian affiliation, so that the orthodox law is the basis for its formation without complicity and shame.” And he continued: “We say that it is forbidden to violate our privacy that is protected by this council and that it is equally preserved that no number can affect it.” “We don’t want federalism, but the continued blindness to decentralization will lead us to something beyond federalism. We don’t want federalism because we are not ready for it and we don’t accept division.”
