Who is the new Secretary of State of the United States?

US sources revealed that President-elect Joe Biden decided to appoint veteran diplomat Anthony Blinken as Minister of State, after a diplomatic career that spanned more than 20 years.

Anthony Blinken, 58, comes from a family with a long history in American foreign policy, with his father and uncle as ambassadors.

Blinken served as deputy national security adviser from 2013 to 2015, under the presidency of Barack Obama.

And between 2015 and 2017, the veteran diplomat served as the United States undersecretary of state.

Perhaps the most important task that awaits Blinken as he assumes the post of secretary of state is to bring the country back to the climate agreement signed in Paris in 2015, from which President Donald Trump withdrew.

Notably, Blinken is fluent in French, having enrolled during his childhood at a school in Paris, before returning to the United States and enrolling at Harvard University.

Upon graduation, Blinken worked as a writer for The New Republic, then earned a JD from Columbia Law School and practiced law in New York and Paris.

Biden announced the names of the first group of his administration, on Monday, when laying the groundwork for his new administration, despite Trump’s refusal to acknowledge his defeat in the presidential election.
