The Iranian navy attempted to reduce the size of losses directed at one Iranian destroyer to another during a military exercise, announcing that only one soldier died and several others were wounded, according to the official Fars agency.
And even the Navy statement did not give any details about the death or accident, noting that the death occurred aboard the Konak missile.
This statement coincides with the exposure of an Iranian destroyer to friendly fire from an Iranian military battleship, which caused the fall of a large number of soldiers among the dead and wounded.
For its part, the Jerusalem Post newspaper confirmed that dozens of Iranian sailors were killed after a missile was mistakenly fired by one of the destroyers, adding that the accident occurred near the beaches of Oman in the Persian Gulf, where the Iranian navy regularly conducts military exercises.
The newspaper noted that one of the destroyers fired a C-802 missile at the Konak destroyer that entered the Iranian navy in 2018, killing and injuring dozens.
This incident comes in light of mutual threats between Tehran and Washington, as a spokesman for the Iranian army announced in late April that the United States should be wary of any aggression in the Persian Gulf, in response to the threat from the President of the United States, Donald Trump, from attacking Iranian ships that harass American ships in the gulf.
In recent months, Iran has targeted several commercial ships in the Gulf, in addition to targeting Saudi Aramco, which has increased frequency in the region.
This serious mistake in launching the missiles comes months after Iranian Revolutionary Guards accidentally attacked a Ukrainian passenger plane in early January, killing all 176 passengers on a plane.
