Hours after he imposed sanctions on two Lebanese ministers close to Hezbollah, sources at the US State Department announced that Washington is considering imposing additional sanctions on militia supporters, emphasizing that the sanctions against Lebanese figures are nothing more than a message. forceful for Hezbollah.
He added, in exclusive remarks to Al-Arabiya on Wednesday, that he encourages the international community to hold corrupt people in Lebanon accountable by taking serious action on them.
He affirmed his determination to hold Lebanese politicians accountable for their corruption and said that the demands of the Lebanese people must be met.
He also revealed his desire for a transparent and honest Lebanese government.
America punishes two ministers
It is noteworthy that the United States Treasury announced, this Tuesday, the imposition of sanctions on the two former Lebanese ministers, Ali Hassan Khalil and Youssef Fenianos, for their involvement in corruption operations and their cooperation with Hezbollah, which Washington describes as a terrorist organization .

In a statement, US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin warned that “the United States supports the people of Lebanon in their demand for reforms and will continue to use all means at its disposal to attack those who oppress and exploit them.”
The US Treasury also said that the two former ministers remain in force despite having left the government, namely the former Lebanese government’s Minister of Public Works, Youssef Fenianos, and the former Minister of Finance, Ali Hassan Khalil.
The US sanctions on the two Lebanese ministers include freezing assets and real estate.

“Everything means everything”
The ministry added that Fenianos secured millions of dollars worth of government contracts for Hezbollah militias, while Ali Hassan Khalil used his post and worked on financial transfers to avoid sanctions on Hezbollah.
The ministry also vowed to hold anyone who helps Hezbollah accountable, inside or outside the government.
And Washington considered that the slogan “everyone means everyone” reflects the seriousness of the Lebanese people in their demands for reform, accusing Hezbollah of covering up corruption in Lebanon in exchange for influence.
In addition, he stated that since 2017, 90 figures close to Hezbollah have been included in the sanctions list.
