White House spokeswoman Jane Saki said Thursday that President Joe Biden’s administration will continue to work with Saudi Arabia, given the threats it faces in the region.
Saki added at a press conference that Washington is committed to restoring relations with Saudi Arabia, explaining that there are areas where concern will be expressed and accountability left open, as she said.
The US spokeswoman stated that the Biden administration is committed to disclosing an unclassified copy of the report on the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi on October 2, 2018, inside her country’s consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.
He explained that the report will be issued by the National Intelligence Agency and not by the White House.
For his part, State Department spokesman Ned Bras said at a press conference Thursday that President Biden said he would review relations with Saudi Arabia as a whole, in the interest of the American people.
Price also said that the intelligence report on Khashoggi’s murder will be released soon, adding that this report is “important in determining responsibility,” noting that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken relies on intelligence.
In the words of the US spokesman, the murder of Khashoggi was a horrible crime, and that would be at the heart of the intelligence report.
In context, CNN quoted US officials that the expected US intelligence report on the Khashoggi’s assassination will not be issued before President Joe Biden speaks with King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
For its part, the Saudi Press Agency reported that Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan received a phone call from his US counterpart Anthony Blinken on Thursday.
The agency said the two sides discussed bilateral relations and the strategic partnership between the two countries and reviewed aspects of cooperation on regional and international challenges.
