The US State Department confirmed Friday that President Joe Biden’s administration does not trust the Houthi leadership except that it seeks to end the war in Yemen.

Regarding the reason for the US administration’s confidence in the return of the Houthis to the negotiations, the State Department spokesman said: “I don’t think we put our trust in the Houthi leaders, the matter is far from that.”

He added, “As the Houthis continue to provoke and attack them, including attacks on our partners in the region, we will continue to increase pressure on them,” affirming Washington’s commitment to confront the evil behavior of the Houthis.

He continued: “At the same time, we believe that there is no military solution to the conflict in Yemen. Only through diplomacy can we achieve peace, stability and alleviate the human suffering of the Yemeni people. “

The State Department spokesman added: “It is not the case that we put our faith or trust in the Houthis. We are giving diplomacy a high priority, knowing that there is no military alternative to the urgent needs in Yemen. “

He also stressed the need to provide “security”, address the “humanitarian test” in Yemen and ensure “also the interests of our partners in the region.”

This comes after the US State Department removed the Houthi militias from the terrorist list and maintained sanctions on their leaders, led by Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi, Abdul-Khaliq Badr Al-Din and Abdullah Al-Hakim.
