The President of Turkmenistan discovered a giant statue of gold-plated dogs of his favorite breed, called “Alabai”, in the middle of the residential area designated for government officials in the capital, Ashgabat.

A Vice report on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, said the dog statue also contains a display showing photos and video clips of President Gurbangli Berdymukhamedov’s much-loved dogs.

Berdy Mammadov, who has been in office since 2007, published a comprehensive book in 2019 on this unique breed of dog that embodies courage and dedication. And in 2015, the president erected a giant golden statue of himself on horseback.

Turkmenistan is considered one of the worst countries in terms of respect for human rights and claims, like North Korea, that it has not registered any cases of the new Corona virus this year, while neighboring Iran has registered almost 730,000 cases.

The World Health Organization has already warned Turkmenistan that it needs to intensify its preparations for the epidemic. The Johns Hopkins University of the United States also ranked Turkmenistan 147 out of 156 in terms of its ability to respond to the epidemic. But President Mammadov insisted on the absence of the disease and even prevented his doctors from pronouncing the word “Coronavirus.”
