The city of Jableh witnessed riots that required the intervention of security forces and shots in the air after Jabla’s team lost to the Tishreen Club in a highly charged match, whose timeout reached more than 20 minutes.
City sources told RT that the riots started when the referee awarded a penalty against Jabla’s team and the decision to send off a player from him (Muhammad al-Kurdi), which angered the team’s fans, who saw that the decision was not correct and that several fans of the team, in addition to their administrators, and players went to the stadium. .
Sources added that the atmosphere became more tense in the second half, amid criticism of the match’s ruling and considering it biased towards Tishreen’s team, and the match ended with three goals against a goal for Tishreen.
After the game, “the barricade got mixed up with noses”, according to sources, and “there was a street war in the city, which caused injuries between the two sides”, and that “the police forces and the maintenance of order fired bullets on the air until they could control the situation after about an hour of tension. “
The riots included throwing stones and besieging Tishreen’s team, and the seats were smashed.
The match took place at the Al-Baath stadium in the city of Jableh, and within the eighth day of the Syrian Football Premier League.
Many expect new sanctions to be imposed on team Jabla, which was one of the clubs against which the Syrian Football Association imposed sanctions earlier this month, in addition to other clubs and sports figures after riots, insults, fights and stones thrown. in stadiums.
Subsequently, the General Sports Federation issued a decision to pardon the penalties.
