French television broadcast a video of President Emmanuel Macron reprimanding the journalist of the newspaper “Le Figaro”, Georges Malbrunot, for publishing false information about Lebanese officials.
Macron told French journalist Georges Malbrunot: “What he has done is irresponsible in light of the sensitivity of the situation and what he knows about Lebanon.”
Macron added in a brusque tone: “His step indicates irresponsibility towards the interests of France and Lebanon, and is professionally dangerous.”
He continued: “I always defend journalists, but I talk to you because what I did is serious and unprofessional,” while the journalist did not respond to the French president’s words.
On the eve of the French president’s arrival in Lebanon, Le Figaro published an article that contained enough contempt for the main Lebanese political actors.
The article accuses them, in the name, of corruption and of trying to steal 20% of “Sidr’s promises”, threatening them with European-American sanctions if they do not comply with Macron’s demands.
