Scientists announced the discovery of a new species of whale off the coast of Mexico, according to a statement published by the “Sea Shepherd Conservation Society”, concerned about marine life.

Researchers off the western coast of Mexico have discovered a species of whale, which they believe belongs to a previously undiscovered species.

The discovery, announced this week, came when, on the morning of November 17, scientists noticed three beaked whales floating in the waters near them.

Scientists spotted previously unknown whales 100 miles north of Mexico’s San Benito Islands, about 300 miles from the U.S. border.

The scientific expedition led by researchers in the field of beaked whales, Gustavo Cárdenas, Jay Barlow and Elizabeth Henderson, in cooperation with the Society, aims to study the marine mammals found in the waters surrounding the San Benito Islands.

The team identified the new whale through an unknown acoustic signal that had previously been recorded in the same area.

When the whales were captured, the scientists took photos and videos of them, and placed a specialized microphone underwater to record the sound signals they emit.

According to the association, the scientists are “very confident” that the photographic and audio evidence they have confirms the existence of a completely new species of whale.

The team has taken the necessary environmental genetic samples from the site, which are also subject to analysis, and it is hoped that through it the presence of this new type of whale will be verified.

“We saw something new. Nothing was expected in this region, ”said scientist Jay Barlow.

He added that what they saw was “something that does not correspond visually or acoustically with anything that is known to exist.”
