According to the Turkish “Anatolia” news agency, Erdogan said in statements he made on Tuesday that “attacking Muslims has become one of the most important means used by European politicians to cover their failure.”
The Turkish president considered previous statements by the French president that “(Islam is in crisis) in a city with a Muslim population is a direct provocation and disrespect,” as he himself put it.
Macron stated that “those who avoid confronting racism and Islamophobia commit the greatest offense to their societies.”
Regarding the previous statements of the French president on “restructuring Islam”, Erdogan said that “it is rude and lack of manners for the French president to speak about the restructuring of Islam.”
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Friday that the authorities intend to make every effort to combat “Islamist separatism” and uphold the principles of the republic and the secularism of the state.
Macron said during a lengthy speech about what he called “Islamist separatism” in France: “We must combat Islamist separatism that tries to promote principles that are not compatible with the principles of our republic.”
He added: “In France there is an extremist Islam that tries to create a parallel system to reinforce its control, and the Islamic religion is currently in a state of crisis throughout the world.”
Macron emphasized the need not to mix between Islamist separatism and Islam, considering that religious freedom in France is a right.
Macron announced his intention to present a bill on “Islamist separatism” and “strengthening secularism” on December 9, with the aim of combating extremist tendencies.
Macron acknowledged that the state failed and treated immigrants inappropriately, leading to the rise of extremism, which benefited from the state’s absence.
Macron condemned the “ghettos” that had formed in some neighborhoods, and announced the strengthening of the monitoring of Islamic associations and the strengthening of the monitoring of funds received by mosques in France.
Macron indicated that the authorities intend to “free the Islam of France from foreign interference”, referring to the funds that come from Islamic countries in addition to bringing imams from abroad.
Macron called for “improving the understanding of the Islamic religion and the teaching of the Arabic language,” announcing the end of the system of imam preparation and education abroad.
