Western support for the Lebanese army continues, in the form of various military aid, especially from the United States of America.
It seems that the military is the only official institution that countries like France, Great Britain and the United States trust, even in the areas of relief and humanitarian aid.
In this context, the army received a batch of US helicopters and British armored vehicles on Saturday to strengthen its combat capabilities.
American helicopters
Today Saturday, at the Beirut Air Base, a ceremony was held to receive three Huey 2 helicopters, delivered as a donation from the United States of America to the Lebanese Army, in the presence of the representative of the Armed Forces, Commander General Joseph Aoun, Major General Milad Ishaq, the American ambassador to Lebanon, Dorothy Shea, and several officers.
Major General Ishaq praised the relations between the Lebanese and US armies, noting that this occasion constitutes proof of the continued qualitative support provided by the United States of America to the Lebanese Army and the strengthening of its military air capabilities. It also reflects the confidence of the US authorities in the national role of the military in protecting Lebanon from dangers, especially the threat of terrorism.
For her part, the US ambassador noted that the helicopters provided by the United States of America would directly contribute to improving the military’s operational capabilities and ensuring that it performs its various tasks in the defense of Lebanon and its people.
British armored vehicles
Also today, the British Ministry of Defense announced the arrival of 100 armored “Land Rover” vehicles in Lebanon, as well as a British crew of personnel to train the Lebanese Armed Forces in their use.
The British Defense Ministry said in a tweet via Twitter: “The arrival of 100 Land Rover armored vehicles in Lebanon with a squad of 16-person air strike forces to train the Lebanese Armed Forces in their use.”
