According to the army, the dead were: Seth Vernon, 31, of Texas; Gerald Graza, 34, of North Carolina; Marwan Sameh Jabbour (27 years old) from Massachusetts; Kelly Robert Mackie, 35, of Ohio; Jeremy Kane Sherman, 23, is from Illinois.
The soldiers were part of an international group tasked with monitoring the four-decade-long peace agreement between Egypt and Israel.
Mackie’s father Steve said he was the father of two sons, ages 11 and 3. And that his wife is about to give birth to a third child.
Steve added that his son remained in service in Egypt for reasons related to the Corona pandemic, which prevented him from being by his wife’s side during his birth.

According to the multinational force, the soldiers were on a routine mission when their helicopter crashed near the Red Sea city of Sharm el-Sheikh.
A French soldier and a Czech officer were killed in the accident and a sixth American, who was accompanying them, was injured.
According to the army, the cause of the accident is still unknown.
The international force said at the time of the helicopter crash that there was no indication of an attack and that it appeared to be an accident.
