UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in a statement on social media, indicated that the UAE government announced that it had approved amendments that would allow citizenship to be granted to investors and other professions such as scientists, doctors and their families, to attract “minds. This is a rare step in the Gulf states, where the possibility of granting citizenship is very limited. Roughly ten million people live in the Emirates, of which foreigners make up about 90 percent.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is also Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, said: “Today we have adopted legal amendments that allow to grant Emirati citizenship and passport to investors, talented and specialists of scientists, doctors, engineers, artists, intellectuals. and their families ”, noting that“ the objective is to retain, attract and stabilize minds ”, which contributes strongly to our march for development”.
He explained that “people eligible to obtain Emirati nationality will be nominated through the cabinet, local offices and executive councils.”
