Two people were killed and others injured today, Thursday (October 29), in Nice, southeastern France, by a person carrying a knife, and he was arrested, according to a government source. Station “France 24” reported that two people were killed and others wounded in a stabbing attack in Nice, southern France, on Thursday.

A security source said the attack took place around nine o’clock (08.00 TG) near the Notre Dame church in Nice.

Nice Mayor Christian Estrozzi said on Twitter that the attack took place near or near the Notre Dame church and that the police had arrested the attacker, noting that “everything points to a terrorist attack.” The mayor said the suspect kept repeating “God is great” even after police arrested him.

Reuters quoted a French police source as saying that a woman had been beheaded. According to the agency, far-right French politician Marine Le Pen told reporters at Parliament in Paris that the “beheading” took place during the attack.

And French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanan announced in a tweet on Twitter that a “crisis meeting” was taking place.

The attack comes as France continues to grapple with the aftermath of the beheading of teacher Samuel Patti this month by a man of Chechen origin.
