“We are very concerned about the disrespectful reaction of the French president to Le Figaro journalist Georges Malbrunot,” Altun said in tweets on his social media page.

“Mr Macron dreams of a world where he is not subject to revision or reality. He wants journalists not to do their job, because that might upset him. He wants a war criminal to win the Libyan civil war just because he wants to.” Alton said in a separate tweet.

“Given the brutality of the French police against journalists during this year’s protests, it is clear that France has become an increasingly dangerous place for journalists,” he added.

And the French president had unleashed a general controversy on social networks, after a video of him circulated in which he reprimanded a French journalist, saying: “What I did there, given the sensitivity of the issue, given what you know about the history of this country, is irresponsible. Responsible towards France, irresponsible towards those concerned here and serious from the moral point of view.

He continued: “You always heard me defending journalists. I always will. But I speak frankly to you. What I did is outrageous and unprofessional. Despicable.”

The aforementioned journalist had relayed words of a brief retreat that Macron had with the head of the Hezbollah parliamentary bloc, Muhammad Raad, during his August 6 visit to Lebanon, but Raad’s office denied the content of the report.
