Turkish police arrested a prominent ISIS figure who had plans to carry out attacks in Turkey, according to the Turkish Interior Ministry.

Turkish Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu announced on Tuesday that police have arrested Mahmoud Ozden, the most important figure of ISIS in Turkey, who is in possession of plans for attacks by the militant organization.

Soylu said: “Ozden was constantly receiving orders from Iraq and Syria to carry out an attack on Turkey.”

He added that the operation is still ongoing and that people suspected of belonging to ISIS linked to it are being questioned. But it was not clear where or when he was arrested.

The Turkish police raids the organization from time to time. On July 19, the police arrested 27 people in Istanbul with ties to the organization, suspected of planning an attack.

The organization carried out several attacks in Turkey, including an attack on a nightclub in Istanbul on January 1, 2017, which killed 39 people and injured 69 others, and another attack in the historic heart of Istanbul on March 20. of 2016, in which 12 people died.

The Turkish Interior Minister at the time announced that the perpetrator of the suicide bombing in Istanbul was from ISIS and that Nowruz celebrations were prevented in several cities due to the security situation.
