In her first remarks announcing the victory of the presidential candidate, Joe Biden, over his rival, Republican President Donald Trump, the first lady of the United States, Melania Trump, affirmed that “the American people deserve fair elections.”

“The American people deserve fair elections. Every vote must count, legal, not illegal. We must protect our democracy with complete transparency,” Melania wrote in a tweet:

The comment by the US president’s wife came after Trump confirmed his electoral victory, announcing that he would turn to the judiciary for a recount, accusing the parties responsible for the count of “fraud” and the Democrats of “stealing the elections.”

Trump said he would prove in court that he was the winner and that the election was still far from over. He added: “It is the legal voices that determine the president, not the media.”

He explained that his campaign team will go to court on Monday “to ensure that the electoral laws are preserved in their entirety and that the true winner takes office.”

He spoke specifically of Pennsylvania, where Republicans refer to “fraud” and say thousands of late ballots have been counted “against the law.”

Trump asked the Supreme Court to force Pennsylvania to separate late ballots from the constitutional voting date.
