Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – US President Donald Trump, during a call with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, expressed optimism that the Gulf crisis with Qatar will be resolved.
Jude Derry, the deputy White House spokesman, said in a tweet Thursday night that Trump spoke with King Salman bin Abdulaziz and they discussed regional security and key bilateral issues.
Derry added that Trump thanked the Saudi monarch for his leadership and expressed optimism to resolve the Gulf dispute.

In a related context, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said that King Salman bin Abdulaziz had made a phone call with Trump.
During the call, they reviewed the strategic bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to improve them. They also discussed developments in the region, in addition to discussing issues of common interest, according to the “SPA”.

In June 2017, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, in addition to Egypt, cut diplomatic and trade relations with Qatar, amid efforts to resolve the crisis.
Earlier this month, the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, expressed his joy and satisfaction at the efforts made to reach a final agreement to resolve the dispute, and congratulated the leaders of the Gulf states for “historic achievement”.
On the same day, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Ahmed Al-Nasser Al-Sabah announced that “fruitful discussions have taken place during the last period”.
He also thanked Kuwait’s Foreign Minister, son-in-law and adviser to US President Jared Kushner, for his efforts during these talks.
