The president of the United States, Donald Trump, asked his followers not to come out in new demonstrations, as some threaten, with the transformation of downtown Washington, DC, into a military barracks, and Congress discussed his judgment in the context of the events of last Wednesday.
In a short statement, Trump said: “In light of the reports of more demonstrations, I urge that there be no violence, lawlessness or sabotage of any kind.”
He added: “This is not what I stand for and this is not what America stands for. I appeal to all Americans to help ease tension and calm nerves. Thank you.”
